They use the Eritrean Nakfa (ERN), and while it’s pegged to the dollar, you won’t see it anywhere else. You’ll need to bring US dollars or euros to exchange—they don’t have ATMs or card machines everywhere. Hotels or guides can change your cash, but always double-check the rates. Traveler’s checks are kind of outdated there, so stick to folding money. Keeping plenty of small notes is a smart idea for tipping or buying snacks.
