The 2025 parliamentary elections in Moldova concluded on September 28, with the ruling pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) securing a majority of 50.03% of the vote, translating to 55 out of 101 seats in the legislature.
President Maia Sandu's PAS party maintained its position as the dominant political force, reinforcing its commitment to European Union integration amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions with Russia.
The main opposition, the Patriotic Bloc led by former president Igor Dodon, garnered 24.26% of the vote, trailing PAS significantly.
The election was marred by allegations of Russian interference, including cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, and attempts to mobilize pro-Russian voters from regions like Transnistria, raising concerns over electoral integrity.
Despite these challenges, the high voter turnout and the peaceful conduct of the election underscored Moldova's commitment to democratic processes and its European future.
International observers, while noting some irregularities, generally praised the election's administration and the genuine political alternatives presented to voters.
Looking ahead, President Sandu faces the task of uniting a polarized nation and navigating the complex geopolitical landscape as Moldova continues its path towards EU membership.
