Even though it’s mainly a football field, Michigan Stadium has hosted plenty of other big-time events. In the last decade, there’ve been outdoor NHL games, international soccer matches, and even major concerts. The “Big Chill” hockey game between Michigan and Michigan State drew a record crowd of over 100,000, which still blows people’s minds. Soccer fans might remember the 2014 match between Real Madrid and Manchester United that packed the place too. It’s also used for graduations, especially the University of Michigan’s commencement ceremonies — a big deal moment for students. Every now and then, charity events and community runs take over the space. So yeah, it’s not just a football venue, it’s kind of the centerpiece for Michigan’s biggest gatherings.
