Belizean food is a mix of Caribbean, Mexican, and Maya influences. You’ll see rice and beans served with stewed chicken, fried fish, or escabeche (a pickled onion and vinegar soup). Street food like fry jacks (fried dough) and tamales are super popular. Fresh seafood is everywhere, especially along the coast and on the cayes. Spices are flavorful but not usually too intense for most visitors. Meals are often communal and festive, especially during local holidays. Trying traditional drinks like coconut water or Belizean rum adds to the experience.
