Amharic is the official language, but there’s a ton of others like Oromo, Tigrinya, and Somali. English is commonly used in schools and for business, so getting around isn’t too hard. Learning a few local phrases goes a long way though, especially in smaller towns. People really appreciate it when you try “Selam” for hello. In markets, a little language skill can also help you haggle better. Ethiopia’s diversity makes language super interesting.
