Rethymno is like the perfect blend of old-world charm and laid-back vibes. It’s not as big or touristy as Heraklion or Chania, but that’s what makes it special. The Old Town is a maze of cobblestone streets, Venetian mansions, and Ottoman-era mosques. You can sip coffee in a courtyard shaded by bougainvillea or wander past ancient fortresses. The vibe is relaxed, romantic, and very much “Crete at its best.” Plus, the beach is just a short stroll away if you want to dip your toes in the Mediterranean.
