The capital of Afghanistan is Kabul. It sits in a valley high up in the Hindu Kush mountains and has been the country’s political and cultural center for centuries. Kabul mixes old bazaars and historic sites with newer neighborhoods and a lively street life. Despite decades of conflict, the city remains an important hub for trade, education, and Afghan media. You’ll find a rugged, continental climate there, with hot summers and cold winters that sometimes bring snow. Visitors often come for the history, to see places like the old city markets and nearby archaeological sites. Keep in mind that travel advice changes a lot, so check current safety information before planning a trip.
