The official language in Albania is Albanian. It has two main dialects: Gheg in the north and Tosk in the south. Albanian is unique and isn’t closely related to other European languages. In cities, you’ll find that many people also speak English or Italian, especially the younger generation. Learning a few Albanian words can make your trip more enjoyable and locals appreciate the effort. Albanian uses the Latin alphabet, so reading signs is pretty straightforward. Overall, Albanian is the key to connecting with the country’s culture and history.
