Typhoon Typhoon Kalmaegi Death Toll Surges in Philippines as Storm Heads Toward Vietnam

The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the central Philippines rose to at least 114, with another 127 people missing in provinces such as Cebu and Negros, officials reported. The storm unleashed flash‑floods, destroyed homes, overturned vehicles and displaced hundreds of thousands. A Philippine Air Force helicopter crashed during relief operations, killing six personnel. Kalmaegi has since moved into the South China Sea and is forecast to make landfall in central Vietnam, where authorities are issuing pre‑emptive evacuations. The disaster highlights the compound risk of sequential weather and seismic events in the archipelago and the increasing challenge of disaster response under climate stress.
