How did Netflix evolve from DVD rentals to streaming?

Netflix began as a DVD-by-mail service, which was super convenient when everyone was still renting movies from shops. As broadband internet became more common, the company saw an opportunity to let people watch films without waiting for delivery. They built a digital platform that allowed instant streaming, which felt revolutionary at the time. The transition didn’t happen overnight, but Netflix kept improving the tech and adding content. By the early 2010s streaming had become the main part of the business, leaving DVDs in the background. That shift set Netflix up to compete on a global level against traditional TV and movie studios. Today Netflix is known almost entirely for streaming, not for renting discs.
