The U.S. Capitol is one of the most iconic landmarks on Capitol Hill, housing the U.S. Congress and serving as a symbol of American government. Inside, visitors may see the Rotunda, a grand circular hall beneath the Capitol dome that showcases historic artworks and sculptures. The National Statuary Hall features statues donated by each state, representing notable Americans from history. Guided tours often include these key spaces and explain their historical and architectural significance. Tours are free but require advance passes or reservations through the Capitol Visitor Center. When Congress is in session, visitors may also observe proceedings from the House or Senate galleries with appropriate passes. The Capitol’s art, architecture and legislative role make it a must-see for many travellers.
