What is the population of Libya?

Libya has an estimated population of around 7 million people, spread across its vast territory. The majority of Libyans live along the northern Mediterranean coast, where cities such as Tripoli and Benghazi are located. Much of the country’s interior is sparsely populated desert, with oases and small settlements scattered across the Sahara. Libya’s population is predominantly Arab and Berber, with Islamic traditions shaping social life. The demographic structure includes a youthful segment, with many residents under the age of 30. Urbanisation has grown over the decades, although economic and political challenges have influenced migration and population patterns. Despite these challenges, family and tribal networks remain important to Libyan society.
