The official languages of Iraq are Arabic and Kurdish. Arabic is widely spoken across most of the country. Kurdish is mainly used in the northern Kurdistan Region. Other minority languages include Turkmen, Syriac, and Armenian. Many Iraqis grow up speaking more than one language. English is taught in schools and used in some professional settings. Language diversity reflects Iraq’s ethnic and cultural mix.
