Côte d’Ivoire, also known as Ivory Coast, is a country in West Africa bordered by Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. It covers an area of around 322,463 square kilometres and features diverse landscapes including coastal lagoons, dense forests, savannas, and mountain ranges such as Mount Nimba. The terrain generally rises from sea level at the coast to higher plateaus inland, offering a mix of environmental zones. Major rivers like the Bandama, Comoé, and Sassandra flow southward toward the Atlantic Ocean, shaping fertile lands and supporting agriculture. The country’s tropical climate includes wet and dry seasons, ideal for its rich biodiversity and varied ecosystems. National parks like Taï, Comoé, and Mount Nimba protect significant wildlife habitats and unique forest species. These geographic features make Côte d’Ivoire one of the most ecologically diverse nations in West Africa.
