What is Washington University in St. Louis?

Washington University in St. Louis, often called WashU, is a private research university in St. Louis, Missouri. It was founded way back in 1853 and named after George Washington, long before the state of Washington even existed. The university sits on a large, leafy campus known as the Danforth Campus, and also includes a medical campus nearby. WashU offers a wide range of programs with over 150 undergraduate majors and many graduate options, spanning sciences, arts, business, engineering, and more. It’s known for its strong research output and academic quality, and has produced Nobel laureates, Pulitzer winners, Rhodes Scholars, and leaders in many fields.
