Is the area around the Fukushima plant still dangerous?

Right around the reactors there are still zones where radiation levels are higher, but most of Fukushima Prefecture is considered safe for people to live and work. Japan’s Reconstruction Agency and other organizations track radiation, and they’ve lifted evacuation orders in many towns over the years. Some areas are still designated “Difficult-to-Return Zones” where entry is restricted to keep people safe. Radiation monitoring continues across soil, air, and water to make sure levels stay low, and results are published regularly by authorities. Independent groups like the International Atomic Energy Agency also assess conditions to help verify safety. For tourists and residents outside restricted zones, there’s no general travel ban or health warning for visiting Fukushima. People are encouraged to check updated official data if they’re curious about specific locations.
