What and where is Daegu in South Korea?

Daegu is a major city in South Korea, known as the country’s fourth-largest metropolitan area with around 2.4–2.5 million residents and a mix of modern city life and historic culture. It’s located in the southeastern part of the country, nestled in a basin surrounded by low mountains like Palgongsan and Biseulsan, with the Geumho and Nakdong Rivers nearby. The city blends urban energy, shopping districts, and nature right at its edges, making it a unique place to explore beyond just the downtown core. Daegu has a strong identity as a textile and fashion hub, and locals often proudly call it their home. Because of its location inland, summers can get very hot and humid, while winters are cool and dry. Many visitors discover Daegu while traveling between Seoul and Busan or stay longer to dig into its food, culture and parks. It’s a place that mixes city vibes with scenic spots and historic sites that reflect Korea’s long past.
