Kirkuk has a semi-arid climate, which means it gets pretty hot and dry in the summer but cooler with some rain in winter months. Summers often bring clear skies and high temps that can go above 40 °C on the hottest days, so locals and visitors plan outdoor activities early or late in the day. Winters are much milder with cool days and chilly nights, and this is when most of the yearly rain happens. Spring and autumn are usually the nicest times to visit if you want more comfortable weather with moderate temperatures and pleasant breezes. Because the city lies inland and near a desert environment, those big differences between seasons are pretty normal. Knowing the season can help you pack right — like water and sun protection for summer or a light jacket for winter trips.
