Why is it called Bryant–Denny Stadium?

The stadium is named after two legends in Alabama football history: Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and former university president George Denny. Bear Bryant was one of the most successful coaches in college football history, winning six national championships at Alabama. George Denny served as president of the university in the early 1900s and supported major growth in academics and athletics. The name was first changed to honor Bryant in the 1970s, and later both names were included to recognize their contributions. Because of their impact, the stadium’s name reflects both athletic and academic tradition. Many fans simply refer to it as “The Denny” or “Bryant–Denny” in casual conversation. Today the name is forever linked with Alabama football pride and history.
