When was Razorback Stadium built and how did it get its name?

Razorback Stadium first opened in 1938 as University Stadium after being built with help from the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. Not long after, it was renamed Bailey Stadium before the university settled on Razorback Stadium in 1941, which most people still call it in everyday talk. Fast forward to 2001, the stadium name officially became Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium to honor the big gift from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation that helped fund its major renovation. The playing surface itself is named Frank Broyles Field after the longtime Razorbacks coach and athletic director. Over the decades the stadium’s name changes reflect both its deep history and the importance of community support. That blend of tradition and modern naming makes it feel like both a classic and contemporary venue. Students and alumni are proud of the legacy wrapped up in its name. It’s been the Razorbacks’ home for nearly a century with more upgrades still possible in the future.
