Which countries drink the most? Alcohol consumption by country per capita

Despite of known harmful effects of alcohol people in developed countries still drink a lot. Alcohol remains the most widely sold drug in the world.

The list of heavily drinking countries is shown below. Among the heaviest drinkers there are a lot of former USSR states. Surprisingly enough the United States is not the heaviest drinker at all. The figure near each country shows the average yearly amount of alcohol (in liters) drunk per capita.
