The county, established back in 1820 from part of Macomb County, covers an area of 837 square miles. The county seat of St. Clair County is Port Huron. The county is named after either Arthur St. Clair, first governor of the Northwest Territory, or Saint Clair on whose feast day Lake St. Clair was discovered.
