What is the Hall of Mirrors?

The Hall of Mirrors (Galerie des Glaces) is one of the most iconic rooms in the Palace of Versailles. It was designed to impress visitors with its immense size and lavish decoration, including 17 mirror-clad arches reflecting light from large windows. The ceiling features painted scenes glorifying the reign of Louis XIV. It also served important ceremonial purposes, including royal receptions and state occasions. Notably, the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I, was signed here in 1919. The room symbolizes both the artistic and political power of France in the 17th century. It continues to awe visitors from around the world.
