When was the Brooklyn Bridge built and how long did it take?

Construction on the Brooklyn Bridge began in 1869 and took 14 years to complete, officially opening on May 24, 1883. The project faced numerous setbacks, including the death of its original designer and dangerous working conditions, especially for the workers digging the caissons underwater. Despite these challenges, the bridge was completed and opened with great fanfare. On opening day, over 150,000 people crossed the bridge on foot, and it was considered one of the wonders of the modern world.
