Who designed the Brooklyn Bridge?

The Brooklyn Bridge was originally designed by John A. Roebling, a German-born civil engineer. After his untimely death from an accident during early construction, his son, Washington Roebling, took over the project. Washington himself suffered from decompression sickness (the bends) during construction and oversaw much of the work from his home, while his wife Emily Roebling relayed instructions to the workers. This unique collaboration made Emily an unofficial but vital figure in completing the bridge. The design combines suspension and cable-stayed bridge techniques, which was innovative for its time.
