Cool facts about the Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the U.S. in 1886. Her full name is "Liberty Enlightening the World." The statue’s green color is due to natural weathering of the copper. The crown has 7 spikes representing the seven continents and seas. Lady Liberty holds a tablet inscribed with July 4, 1776. Her shoe size is estimated at 879, symbolizing her giantess proportions. Gustave Eiffel helped design the internal structure. The torch was replaced in 1984 with a new copper flame coated in gold leaf.
