Mont Saint-Michel has been nicknamed the “Wonder of the West” for its stunning appearance and history.
The abbey’s spire is topped with a golden statue of Archangel Michael, the island’s patron saint.
During medieval times, pilgrims would risk quicksand and fast tides to reach the abbey.
It was never conquered in the Hundred Years’ War, despite numerous English attempts.
The island inspired the design of Minas Tirith in “The Lord of the Rings” and even Disney’s Tangled castle.
At low tide, the surrounding bay becomes a vast sandy plain that stretches for miles.
Mont Saint-Michel attracts over 3 million visitors each year, making it one of France’s most popular sites.
