How does the tide affect Mont Saint-Michel?

The tides at Mont Saint-Michel are among the highest in Europe, rising and falling up to 14 meters. At high tide, the island is completely surrounded by water, making it look like a fairytale castle floating in the sea. At low tide, visitors can walk across the sandy flats to reach it. These dramatic tidal shifts are one of the island’s most unique natural features.
