The fort took about 10 years to build, from 1638 to 1648.
It was originally decorated with precious stones and jewels, many of which were looted during invasions.

The Red Fort was designed by the same emperor who built the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan.
The fort walls stretch over 2 kilometers in length and stand about 33 meters high.
A spectacular sound and light show is held at the fort, narrating its 400-year-old history.
