The sculpture was designed and created by Blackbear Bosin, a renowned Kiowa-Comanche artist. Bosin was also a painter, muralist, and educator who worked to preserve Native American art and culture. He intended the statue to serve as a reminder of the spiritual connection between the people of the Plains and the land. Bosin’s vision included integrating the statue with its surrounding environment, emphasizing the rivers’ significance. The artist passed away in 1980, but his work continues to inspire residents and visitors. The Keeper remains his most famous public art contribution.
