Who designed the Crazy Horse Memorial?

The memorial was designed by Korczak Ziolkowski, a Polish-American sculptor who was personally invited by Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear to create it. Ziolkowski worked on the project until his death in 1982, and his family continues to oversee construction. The design depicts Crazy Horse riding a horse and pointing into the distance. It is intended to be the largest mountain carving in the world. The monument is carved from Thunderhead Mountain in the Black Hills. The project emphasizes both artistic vision and respect for Native American culture.
