Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania located in the Indian Ocean, just off the east coast of Africa. It is composed mainly of two large islands, Unguja (commonly referred to as Zanzibar Island) and Pemba, along with many smaller islets. Known as the “Spice Islands,” Zanzibar has a rich history of trade, culture, and influence from Arab, Persian, Indian, and European settlers. The region is famous for its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and historical towns. It is one of Africa’s top tourist destinations.
