Construction of Saint Basil's Cathedral began in 1555 and was completed in 1561. It was commissioned by Tsar Ivan IV, better known as Ivan the Terrible, to commemorate his military victories over the Khanate of Kazan. The cathedral was built by Russian architects Barma and Postnik, whose names are remembered in Russian folklore. Over the centuries, it has undergone several renovations but remains remarkably well preserved. Its age and history make it one of the most significant religious monuments in Russia.
