Which countries border the Caspian Sea?

The Caspian is surrounded by five countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan. Each country has its own stretch of shoreline, and together they share its resources. The north side is wide and shallow near Russia and Kazakhstan, while the south side near Iran is deep and dramatic. Each country also brings a different culture and history to the sea, making it a real crossroads region. That mix of influences is part of what makes the Caspian Sea so unique compared to other lakes and seas in the world.
