Are there shipwrecks in Lake Superior?

Yep — hundreds of them, and some are legendary. The lake’s storms and fog made shipping dangerous, especially back in the 1800s and early 1900s. The most famous wreck is probably the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in 1975 during a brutal storm. Many wrecks are preserved in the cold, clear water, making the lake a top diving destination. Even if you’re not diving, there are museums and boat tours where you can learn about these stories.
