Cypriot food is a tasty blend of Greek, Turkish, and Middle Eastern flavors — expect grilled meats, fresh seafood, salads, and lots of olive oil and herbs. Don’t miss halloumi (the famous grilled cheese), souvlaki, kleftiko (slow-roasted lamb), and mezze platters for a sampler of local flavors. Local bakeries serve great pastries and sesame-coated breads, and villages often have traditional tavernas where food is homemade and generous. Fresh fruit, local wine, and zivania (a local spirit) are also worth tasting if you enjoy trying regional specialties. Food is a highlight here — eat like the locals and you’ll be rewarded.
