Africa Powers Commit to Mission 300: Electricity for 300 Million by 2030

Seventeen African nations today pledged sweeping reforms and national “Energy Compacts” designed to expand electricity access under the Mission 300 initiative. Launched by the World Bank and African Development Bank, Mission 300 aims to connect 300 million Africans to reliable power by 2030. Countries from Ethiopia to São Tomé and Principe committed to boosting infrastructure, regulatory reform, and private investment. Already, 30 million people have been connected, with 100 million more in the pipeline. Officials emphasized that clean, affordable power is essential to driving economic growth, job creation, and digital transformation. For many governments, this marks a turning point in translating climate goals into electrification on the ground.
