Tonga is the only monarchy left in the South Pacific, and the King plays a huge cultural role.
It’s known as the “Friendly Islands” because of the warm welcome Captain Cook received when he first visited.
Whale watching is incredible here, as humpback whales migrate to Tonga’s waters every year to give birth.
Sundays are treated as sacred, with almost all shops, restaurants, and activities closed.
The country spans over 170 islands, but only about 36 are actually inhabited.
Traditional feasts called “umu” involve underground cooking, a method that’s still used today.
