Do people in Indonesia speak English?

English is spoken in most tourist areas, especially in Bali, Jakarta, and other big cities. Out in smaller towns or villages, you might not find as much English, but people are usually patient and helpful. Bahasa Indonesia is the official language, and it’s actually pretty simple compared to a lot of other languages. Learning a few basic phrases like “terima kasih” for thank you can go a long way. Young people and those in tourism know English better, so you’ll be fine in hotels, airports, and restaurants. It’s always fun to try and pick up some local words, though.
