Riocentro opened in 1977 and was originally built to boost Rio’s status as a global convention hub.
It covers over 570,000 square meters, including pavilions, a lake, and landscaped outdoor areas.
During the 2016 Olympics, four sports were hosted there across different halls.
In 1981, Riocentro was the site of a famous failed bombing attempt during a political concert — now part of Brazil’s modern history.
Major international artists like Iron Maiden and Queen have performed there.
The complex often doubles as a movie and TV set thanks to its size and versatility.
It’s right next to the Rio Olympic Park, making the whole area a hotspot for major events and entertainment.
