Belgium has three official languages: Dutch, French, and German. Dutch is spoken mainly in Flanders, French in Wallonia, and German in a small eastern region. In Brussels, both Dutch and French are used, and you’ll find that many people also speak English. The language someone speaks often depends on which region you’re in. Learning a few phrases in the local language can make a big difference in your experience. Multilingualism is very common, and people are usually happy to help visitors. The diversity of languages reflects Belgium’s rich cultural heritage.
