The official language in Burkina Faso is French. It’s used in schools, government, and the media. However, most people also speak local languages such as Moore, Dioula, or Fulfulde. In rural areas, local dialects are more common than French. English is not widely spoken, so knowing some French phrases can be very helpful. The country’s linguistic diversity reflects its many ethnic groups and cultural heritage. Overall, French ties the country together while local languages add color and community spirit.
