The official language in the Czech Republic is Czech. It’s a Slavic language that shares similarities with Slovak and Polish. English is commonly spoken by younger people and in tourist areas like Prague. German is also understood by some, especially near the border regions. Czech can be tricky to pronounce, but learning basic words like “hello” or “thank you” is always appreciated. The language uses the Latin alphabet, so reading signs isn’t too hard. Czech is a big part of the country’s strong national identity and pride.
