Ireland stun Portugal as Ronaldo sees red in dramatic qualifier

The Republic of Ireland national football team pulled off a stunning 2-0 win over Portugal national football team on 13 November 2025, reigniting their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup. Troy Parrott scored both goals in the first half, capitalising on Ireland’s disciplined counter-attacks and Portugal’s errors. The night turned worse for Portugal when Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off in the 59th minute after an elbow on Dara O’Shea, a first-ever red card for him in his 226th cap. Despite dominating possession, Portugal failed to break down a resolute Irish defence and now must rely on a victory against Armenia. Ireland now head to their final Group F match with new momentum and a genuine chance at a playoff spot.
