Algeria is best known for exporting oil and natural gas, which make up the majority of its economy. The country is one of Africa’s biggest energy suppliers and ships large volumes to Europe. Algeria also produces petroleum-based products like refined fuels and chemicals. Outside the energy sector, dates—especially the famous Deglet Noor variety—are a notable export. Agriculture includes olives, citrus fruits, and cereals, though these are smaller in volume. The country is working to diversify its economy by developing mining, manufacturing, and renewable energy. Even with diversification efforts, energy remains Algeria’s most recognizable export worldwide.
