Mongolia is known for exporting copper, coal, and other minerals that make up most of its foreign trade. The country also exports cashmere, being one of the world’s top producers of fine cashmere wool. Livestock products including meat and hides play an important economic role. Mongolia relies heavily on natural resources but is working to diversify its exports. Its vast grasslands support strong herding traditions that fuel its textile and wool industries.
