Nauru is known for exporting phosphate, which historically has been its main and most valuable resource. The country’s phosphate deposits made it one of the richest per capita nations decades ago. Although reserves have declined, phosphate processing and related activities still play a role in its economy. Nauru also earns revenue from fishing licenses in its territorial waters. Due to limited land and resources, the nation relies heavily on imported goods and service-based income.
