How did Andrew Johnson’s presidency end and what happened afterward?

Johnson barely avoided removal from office after his impeachment trial, surviving by just one vote. His political influence was pretty limited after that, and he didn’t get nominated for another presidential term. But interestingly, he later won a Senate seat from Tennessee, becoming the only former president to return to the Senate. People back home still respected his loyalty to the Union. He served until his death a few years later. His legacy stayed controversial, but he remained a major figure in the South. That return to the Senate was his last political comeback.
