What was Abraham Lincoln’s ethnicity and family background?

Lincoln came from a family of mostly English ancestry, with some hints of Welsh and possibly Scotch-Irish roots. His parents, Thomas and Nancy Lincoln, were frontier folks trying to scrape by like many early settlers. He had a sister, Sarah, and a younger brother who died in infancy. His mother passed away when he was a kid, which deeply affected him. His father remarried, and Lincoln was close to his stepmother. The mix of hardship and support he grew up with played a role in shaping his calm but determined personality. His background wasn’t fancy, but it was very American for that era.
