Fillmore was known as calm, polite, and always eager to learn new things. He married Abigail Powers, who had been his teacher, and they were both huge fans of books and education. Their home was full of reading material, and Fillmore loved studying in his free time. He lived pretty simply and didn’t act like a big-shot politician. Friends said he was friendly but a bit reserved, always trying to better himself. He was also devoted to his kids and wanted them to have an easier start than he did. Overall, he lived a grounded, family-centered life.
